General Purpose and Specialty Alloys. There are two basic families of zinc casting alloy. The conventional or ZAMAK alloys are commonly named based on their sequential development, preceded by the word alloy. These include Alloy 2, Alloy 3, Alloy 5, and Alloy 7. The most recent addition to the ZAMAK family is the new high-fluidity or HF alloy.
Zinc Alloy Die Casting. There are a number of processes by which metals are processed into different forms. Die casting is one of the popular manufacturing processes. It is preferred above all other kinds of processes due to the quality of the finished goods and also the ease of manufacture.
Melt and pour these alloys into molds to create metal parts and prototypes. Zinc alloy is nonshrinking and corrosion resistant. Parts cast from this material are easy to machine.
Zinc casting alloys provide a better combination of strength, toughness, rigidity, bearing, performance and economical castability than any other alloy possible. In fact their properties often exceed the ones of other alloys such as aluminium, magnesium, bronze, plastics and other cast irons.
Zinc Alloys. Zinc is alloyed with Lead and Tin to make solder, a metal with a relatively low melting point used to join electrical components, pipes, and other metallic items. Other Zinc Alloys include Nickel Silver, typewriter metal, and German Silver.
Zinc Die Casting Alloys. Today there are two ACuZinc alloys: ACuZinc 5 (5% Copper), and ACuZinc 10 (10% Copper), and are used in a variety of automotive applications. ACuZinc 5 is HOT chamber die cast due to its lower melting temperature, whereas ACuZinc 10 is COLD chamber die cast.
